You know a flat tire never happens at a convenient time. It’s either when you are racing down the freeway or it’s out on a lonely road, or maybe it’s in your own garage.
The first thing you want to do is consult your owner’s manual. It’s going to tell you some safety rules – it’s also gonna show you where to put the jack and give you some other tips.
First of all, you need to set the emergency brake so that the car can’t move. It is a good idea to put blocks in front of the wheels and you want to be sure you take the tire and the jack out of the trunk. Since the lugnuts are going to be on there pretty tight, it’s a good idea to loosen them before you jack up the car. If you can’t do it by hand, get that foot up there and give it a little extra pressure.

Now, according to the manual this slot right here is going to fit down here against the ridge that sticks out. Be sure the jack is on a good firm base. Otherwise as you get the weight of the car on there, it will just push down into the ground.
Alright, now we’ve got the tire… if you can take those lugnuts off, Cathy… now the tire should come right on off of there. And now we’re ready to put this little temporary one back on there. If you’re out on the highway when this happens to you – be sure you pull far enough off of the road so that oncoming traffic can’t hit you.
Okay, now you can snug them up real good with the wrench. Good, Cathy; you’ve got it done! Now you can let the jack down. You do want to get your tire fixed and get this thing back in the trunk where it belongs, but if you do it safely you’re going to be able to roll around town without any problems!
